Barefoot in the grass

September 19, 2012 § Leave a comment

…is one of the most relaxing feelings I know.  I think this love of barefootness started when I was a child and moved to Sweden. The grass there was soft and welcoming, not like the thick perfectly trimmed Houston outdoor-carpets which actually hurt when you walked or sat in it (wearing shorts). No bare feet there, the risk of cutting your feet was too high.

I also believe that running around barefoot makes people feel more free and relaxed. Kids just take off and do their thing. That’s when I do my best to run after and catch a shot or two of how each child enjoys that barefoot feeling.  Thanks to Ian and his family, for letting me be part of their barefoot afternoon in the park!

Welcoming 40

July 8, 2012 § Leave a comment

Recently I had the honour of photographing one part of a 40th birthday-weekend celebration. The entire weekend was planned for Melanie and her friends, some who flew in from the States especially to be with a special friend on her day. The apèro took place at Les Gareçons in Basel, where later in the evening also dinner was served for the guests. As rumour has it… the party lasted into the wee hours of the morning…

40 is a great age to welcome and celebrate. That was certainly the atmosphere of this evening. Thanks for an inspiring and fun time with you and your friends Melanie!

Little Blessing

June 20, 2012 § 1 Comment

Little N is 4 weeks old. Big sister P is 3 and totally protective of her new baby brother. In between convincing P that I will not hurt little N when I photograph him, and mamma consoling him every few minutes, we did manage to get quite some wonderful captures of this newborn little blessing. What a wonderful few hours with the family it was.

Getting back on(the)line

June 5, 2012 § Leave a comment

The line of life is curved and swirly, sometimes it’s put to a full stop for a while, before the line continues in more twirls and curls. seldom is it straight.

The lines of 3 people’s lives, specifically my husband, my son and I, have made a beautiful swirly picture in the last 5 months. Before that we didn’t have a son, and now this beautiful little sweet 2-year-old has filled our lives with laughs and messiness, and much more than that. We finally got to go meet and take home our adoptive son in January, and our lives have been sweetly turned upside-down since then.

That is why the blog has been in a bit of a slumber since the last post. But now it’s time to swing my life-line around my blogs again, adding images from the photo-shoots I have been busy with. Because I have been busy, much too busy. Therefore time to get that line a bit straighter for a while.

There have been weddings, many new-born babies, birthday celebrations, Diamond Jubilee benefit party, and many, many, many, portraits of our little sunshine with the chubby cheeks. All of which I will be posting in review in the next weeks. Glad to be back. Help keep me motivated and keep me company; I hope to hear from you often in my future posts.

The last leaves

November 26, 2011 § Leave a comment

Little Miss S. enjoyed the leaves on the ground, more than the few that were still hanging on the trees.

Little Miss S. was all smiles, and laughing at daddy. All the time.

Little Miss S. was patient, and smiled again.

Little Miss S., stole the hearts of the park visitors. Including mine.

October in the park

October 29, 2011 § Leave a comment

.. can be a dangerously cold event. If you are there already at 08.30 on a clear morning. The weather promised beautifully sunny, but none of us were prepared that it would only be 5° C that morning. The park was beautiful with changing leaves and pure stillness, and we had it all to ourselves. PERFECT. Just a little chilly. Keeping after 3-year old H was a challenge, if you want sharp photos that is. It was easier with little H, she was less mobile. After 30 minutes when big sister kept asking to go in to the café (which was still closed), we decided to meet up again in the afternoon when it would be warmer, for the rest of the session.

In the afternoon we no longer had the park to ourselves, but we found a few corners to take some colorful pictures. Gorgeous girls, and gorgeous parents.

Old town shoot

September 30, 2011 § 1 Comment

A great way to have keepsake memories of a place you lived in for a few years, is to have a photo session right in the middle of it. Later, looking back at the pictures reminds you of the place and the time you spent there. reminiscing of an earlier time.. when the kids were small….

This lovely family wanted to have pictures taken in the city of Basel, to have as a keepsake for whenever they may return to their native land half way around the world, or move on to a new adventure somewhere else. It was a joy to spend a few hours with them in the old town and attempt to catch their 3-year-old daughter just at the right moment for a nice capture. And also of the gorgeous little brother of fives months, whenever he happened to look my way that is. He seemed to just try to figure out what we were doing the whole time. His expression often said just that!

I soooo enjoyed the afternoon with you all, and I am looking forward to taking a few more photos when little bro is ready to sit on his own!  🙂

Wedding K & M

August 14, 2011 § 5 Comments

‘The real names are kept secret to protect the innocent’, as the old saying goes.

It was a wonderful start to the day, partly sunny, cool, relaxed and joyful. We met the wedding couple outside their apartment early, which gave us plenty of time to make photographs on the way to the wedding and apéro location. The pictures tell the story…
