Little Miss S. enjoyed the leaves on the ground, more than the few that were still hanging on the trees.
Little Miss S. was all smiles, and laughing at daddy. All the time.
Little Miss S. was patient, and smiled again.
Little Miss S., stole the hearts of the park visitors. Including mine.

.. can be a dangerously cold event. If you are there already at 08.30 on a clear morning. The weather promised beautifully sunny, but none of us were prepared that it would only be 5° C that morning. The park was beautiful with changing leaves and pure stillness, and we had it all to ourselves. PERFECT. Just a little chilly. Keeping after 3-year old H was a challenge, if you want sharp photos that is. It was easier with little H, she was less mobile. After 30 minutes when big sister kept asking to go in to the café (which was still closed), we decided to meet up again in the afternoon when it would be warmer, for the rest of the session.
In the afternoon we no longer had the park to ourselves, but we found a few corners to take some colorful pictures. Gorgeous girls, and gorgeous parents.

Old town shoot

A great way to have keepsake memories of a place you lived in for a few years, is to have a photo session right in the middle of it. Later, looking back at the pictures reminds you of the place and the time you spent there. reminiscing of an earlier time.. when the kids were small….
This lovely family wanted to have pictures taken in the city of Basel, to have as a keepsake for whenever they may return to their native land half way around the world, or move on to a new adventure somewhere else. It was a joy to spend a few hours with them in the old town and attempt to catch their 3-year-old daughter just at the right moment for a nice capture. And also of the gorgeous little brother of fives months, whenever he happened to look my way that is. He seemed to just try to figure out what we were doing the whole time. His expression often said just that!
I soooo enjoyed the afternoon with you all, and I am looking forward to taking a few more photos when little bro is ready to sit on his own!

It was a wonderful start to the day, partly sunny, cool, relaxed and joyful. We met the wedding couple outside their apartment early, which gave us plenty of time to make photographs on the way to the wedding and apéro location. The pictures tell the story…

Celebrating 720

Last Monday, August 1st, Switzerland turned 720 years old as a confederation. Every year the 1st of August is celebrated with a huge firework show (or let’s say ‘large’, Switzerland has different dimensions than some other large countries…) launched from a ship anchored in the middle of the Rhine in downtown Basel. This year we went, as we had very a special visitor, and both she and I enjoy photographing. Here are some impressions from that day and evening.
From lump to lovely little lady

The other night, I was playing around with some photos from a maternity shoot I did a few months ago. I enjoyed testing the different effects, which are more suitable for studio shots than outdoors. It’s all a taste thing, and there are some black and white captures. After the fact, I see how I would have wanted a few thing shot differently, but ‘Oh well!’ as my step-mom use to say, our art y-moods can change from day-to-day. What do you think?

Show your Chocolate ~ Competition

As some of you know, we usually have an assignment/competition on my Facebook page which has a pre-determined theme. The members then have the freedom to bring out their creativity as long as they stick to the theme and any guidelines mentioned, go out and take photos, and post them on the Facebook page. This time the assignment will be a competition, about CHOCOLATE! This is how it works:
- First: Go to Chocolate-Spots on Facebook and ‘Like’ the page.
- Second: Post your chocolate photos on the vjk photography page on Facebook.
- Surf around on the Chocolate-Spots website and gain some insight on where to be for chocolate, when you are in Switzerland!
Winners will be voted by the jury of admins at Chocolate-Spots and announced here, on the vjk photography page and Chocolate-Spots page on August 1st (you can’t miss it!)

Wedding Season

… is in full swing. For me, spending a day with a happy (yet sometimes nervous) couple on their special days is a real pleasure. The day is full of joy, hope and LOVE. What a pleasure to enjoy a profession that full of joyous hours in the work day!
Last summer, we spent a special weekend with special friend’s at their wedding in Italy. I will start with posting some shots from there, and soon will follow photos from the weddings of this season.
